CAWIN HOW TO INSTALL V3R1M1

** Last updated 5/28/96 **

SHOULD WINDOWS 3.1 BE INSTALLED, UPDATED OR MIGRATED
____________________________________________________

If the workstation was previously using Client Access/400
for Windows 3.1 V3R1M0, a PTF must be applied and downloaded
to the user's workstation before installing the V3R1M1 Windows
client on the AS/400. This PTF will allow the workstation
to update successfully. Use the update install method for
this environment. Refer to "Update from Windows 3.1 V3R1M0
to V3R1M1" for more information.

If the workstation is currently using one of the following
clients, use the migration install method.
    - Client Access DOS Extended or
    - PC Support/400 DOS Extended

The migrate install method uses a migration program to
preserve the current configuration file entries when installing
the Windows 3.1 client. This migration program creates
configuration files for the Windows 3.1 client based on the
user's current configuration, then starts the install program.
Refer to "Migrate to Windows 3.1 from an Extended DOS Client"
for more information.

If the workstation is NOT currently using any of the following
clients, use the installation method.
   - Client Access Windows 3.1 (V3R1M0)
   - Client Access DOS Extended
   - PC Support/400 DOS Extended

The installation method will be a fresh install on the PC.
Refer to "Install Windows 3.1" for more information.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS
_________________________

Mixed Environment: If you have a mixture of workstations
(some using Extended DOS, some using the V3R1M0 Windows 3.1
client, and some not currently using Client Access), use the
appropriate install method for each of the workstations.

UPDATE FROM WINDOWS 3.1 V3R1M0 TO V3R1M1
________________________________________

Steps to follow:
  1. For V3R1, ensure that the AS/400 has cumulative PTF package
C5157310 (or later) installed. For V3R6, the PTF is in
the base. Also make sure that all V3R1M0 Windows 3.1
client workstations have been updated. This will ensure
that important fixes have been applied to the AS/400
and workstations. This step is very important!!
  2. Install Client Access/400 for Windows 3.1 V3R1M1 on the
     AS/400.
     - Use GO LICPGM option 11 for the V3R1M1 Windows client
     - Use RSTLICPGM option 8 for Graphical Access for OS/400
     - Use RSTLICPGM option 9 for System Object Access
  3. Install the latest cumulative tape on the AS/400 so that
the latest V3R1M1 Windows 3.1 client PTFs are applied.
     Refer to Informational PTF SF98310 (R310) or SF98360 (R360)
to get the latest cumulative tape number. NOTE: Even if
you are at the latest cumulative tape level on the AS/400,
you need to install it again so that the V3R1M1 Windows 3.1
client PTFs are applied to the AS/400.
  4. Run the update function again. This will update the
workstation to the V3R1M1 level of Client Access.
  5. If you want to install the new features for the V3R1M1
Windows 3.1 client on your workstation, double-click
on the Setup icon in the Client Access group window.
Then select the new features you want to add.

MIGRATE TO WINDOWS 3.1 FROM AN EXTENDED DOS CLIENT
__________________________________________________

System Administrator Tasks
   2. Install the latest cumulative tape on the AS/400 so that
the latest V3R1M1 Windows 3.1 client PTFs are applied.
Refer to Informational PTF SF98310 (R310) or SF98360
(R360) to get the latest cumulative tape number. NOTE:
Even if you are at the latest cumulative tape level on the
AS/400, you need to install it again so that the V3R1M1
Windows 3.1 client PTFs are applied to the AS/400.
   3. In order for the migration program to access the Windows
3.1 client files, you must first create two temporary
subdirectories under the QDLS directory on the AS/400.
Then copy the Windows 3.1 client files into the two
      temporary subdirectories.
      - To create the subdirectories in QDLS enter
            MD DIR('/QDLS/CAMIGRAT')
            MD DIR('/QDLS/CAMIGRAT/MRIxxxx')
where xxxx is the number for your national language.
          For example, English is 2924.
      - To copy the Windows 3.1 client files to the temporary
        subdirectories, enter:
          CPY OBJ('QPWXCWN/*') TODIR('/QDLS/CAMIGRAT')
          CPY OBJ('/QPWXCWN/MRIxxxx/*')
              TODIR('/QDLS/CAMIGRAT/MRIxxxx')
where xxxx is the number for your national language.

Personal Computer User Tasks
The migration program requires that the DOS Extended client
is installed on the workstation and that it is correctly
configured to coexist with Windows 3.1.

  1. Start the DOS Extended router and shared folders
programs (required by the migration utility).
  2. If you ordered the installation diskettes for the
Windows 3.1 client, insert the diskette labelled
     "DOS Migration Utility".
  3. If you do not have the Windows 3.1 client install
     diskettes then do the following:
      a. Assign a network drive to the AS/400 system.
      b. Access the QIWSTOOL directory on the network drive.
(If the tools folder doesn't exist then you need to
         install it on the AS/400.)
      c. Enter IWSTOOL to display a list of tools in the
         QIWSTOOL directory.
      d. Select CAMIGRAT from the list and press ENTER.
      e. Go to the end of the description and copy the
CAMIGRAT program to a directory either on the PC
         or AS/400.
  4. Start Microsoft Windows.
  5. Select Run from the file pull-down menu.
  6. Enter drive:pathCAMIGRAT.EXE in the Command line box.
Where drive and path specify the PC or AS/400 directory
(network drive) that contains the migration program.

If you already inserted the migration diskette labelled
"DOS Migration Utility" in drive A, enter A:CAMIGRAT.EXE
in the Command line box and press Enter. (All vertical
bars should be changed to backslashes.)
  7. When prompted, enter the drive and path on your
workstation where the DOS Extended client is installed.
  8. When prompted, enter the drive and path on your
workstation where you want to install the Windows 3.1
     client.
  9. When prompted, restart the workstation to complete the
     migration.

Cleaning Up After Migration Is Complete
After each workstation has been successfully migrated to
the Windows 3.1 client, the system administrator should
do the following steps to clean up the AS/400.

  1. Delete these files from these directories that you
created in the QDLS directory on the AS/400:
        DEL OBJLINK('/QDLS/CAMIGRAT/MRIxxxx/*')
        DEL OBJLINK('/QDLS/CAMIGRAT/*')
  2. Remove these directories:
        RMVDIR DIR('QDLS/CAMIGRAT/MRIxxxx')
        RMVDIR DIR('QDLS/CAMIGRAT')

Note: The migration program does not remove the old
Client Access or PC Support directories. If you
want these removed you will have to remove them
        manually.

NOTE: Selecting "Other" router indicates that you are
not using the communications support provided in
Client Access and that you will be using another
vendor's communications support (for example, Novell
Netware** for SAA). For this environment, you need
to configure and start that communications router
         before running Client Access.
     d) Type the connection information that corresponds to
the type of connection you selected in the last step.

Personal Computer User Tasks
  1. If you are installing from diskettes, insert the Client

  2. If you are installing from the Client Access CD-ROM,
insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  3. Select Run from the Program Manage File pull-down menu.
  4. Start the installation program:
From diskettes: type A:INSTALL in the Run box
       From CD-ROM: type d:WIN16QPWXCWNINSTALL (single-byte)
            or type d:WIN16QPWXCWNDINSTALL (double-byte)
where d: is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive.
Also, all vertical bars should be backslashes.
  5. On the Install directories panel, select one or more
connectivity types for your workstation, and enter the
     installation path.

NOTE: If you think you might want to change the connection
type sometime later, use the Select All option. This
will allow you to change the connection type without
running the installation program again. Instead, use
the Common Options under the Systems icon in the Client
       Access Configuration group window.
  6. Select the install button to perform the installation.
  7. Restart Windows.
  8. Enter your common connection information (PC location
name, PC network ID and common AS/400 user ID).
  9. Enter the AS/400 system connection information.
 10. Restart Windows. (For TCP/IP and Async connection
types, the workstation must be restarted because of
required changes to the CONFIG.SYS file.)
 11. After the initial pass through Setup to selectively
install other special functions, you can use the Setup
icon in the Client Access for Windows 3.1 group window
